You assume all responsibility for the selection of the Software as appropriate to achieve the results you intend. Imspace Systems warrants that the enclosed diskette medium upon which the Software is recorded shall be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and condition, and that the Software shall perform substantially as described in its documentation for a period of thirty (30) days from purchase. Welcome to PICTpocket for Macintosh, the slick new way to organize graphic images from disk files. PICTpocket creates an alias that points to the original image file.
Working with an alias provides all the benefits, but none of the hazards, of using an actual image file. Moving or deleting an alias has no effect on its associated image file. Opening or placing an alias, however, will open or place the actual image file. (If you are new to the concept of aliases and how they work, refer to the Macintosh System 7 Reference.)
PICTpocket works like this:
• First, you drag a disk or folder containing picture files onto PICTpocket.
• PICTpocket then searches for all images it recognizes and creates an alias for each image. The alias is then placed in the folder containing PICTpocket (Figure 1).
• PICTpocket attaches a full-color, miniaturized version of the original image to each alias. These unique icons allow you to visually identify the image without opening the application that created the original art.
PICTpocket organizes all of your image files in a single folder for easy access. After running PICTpocket, you can move the aliases from folder to folder to suit your organizational needs.

Why Use PICTpocket?
Anyone who uses images can benefit from this program. Use PICTpocket once and you'll see that it will save you hours of laboriously searching disks and folders for image files.
Because PICTpocket provides an icon-sized replica of each image, you are able to quickly find the images you want simply by glancing at the icons in a single folder.
Here's a typical scenario for PICTpocket: You've just received thousands of images on a CD-ROM and you want to know what they look like and how to find them. You can either:
1. Open every folder and find the images, recording their locations by hand, or
2. Use PICTpocket and enjoy a quick coffee break while the program does the searching and recording for you.
Using PICTpocket
To run PICTpocket, all you need is a Macintosh running System 7. For best results, we recommend adding the Claris XTND engine and QuickTime.
If you purchased your PICTpocket utility from Imspace Systems Corporation, you received QuickTime and Claris XTND modules with PICTpocket.
Demoware Users: If you downloaded PICTpocket from an electronic bulletin board, you received PICTpocket without Claris XTND. Claris XTND modules are included when you register your demoware copy with Imspace Systems Corporation.
Installation
Installing PICTpocket is quick and painless.
1. Simply double-click the Installer icon on the PICTpocket disk and follow the instructions given. The PICTpocket and Claris files will be installed onto your Macintosh automatically.
2. Create a new folder. (We suggest naming the folder "Images" for now, since that's how we refer to the folder in this User's Guide.)
3. Open the Images folder.
4. Copy PICTpocket to the Images folder.
Demoware Users: If you downloaded PICTpocket from an electronic bulletin board, PICTpocket is loaded and ready for use. Simply create a new folder for the images and drag PICTpocket into the new folder.
Running PICTpocket
Because PICTpocket is a standard “drag and drop” utility, using PICTpocket is simplicity itself:
Select a folder or disk and drag it onto PICTpocket. PICTpocket will begin to scan the CD, disk or folder.
PICTpocket is a "no questions asked" utility - as soon as you drag something to it, it launches and immediately starts scanning for images. No further input is required from you.
The Progress Window displays each image found as PICTpocket creates the alias for the image (Figure 2).

Each alias in the Images folder has the same name as the original image file. You can quickly identify alias files because the filenames are displayed in italics. Double-click any picture icon to open the original picture file. If the original disk is not inserted, you will be prompted to insert it before the file will open.
To find the original file that the PICTpocket alias refers to, select the picture icon and choose “Get Info” from the File menu. Click the “Find Original” button, and the folder containing the original will open, revealing the original image file.
If PICTpocket should run out of memory while creating the custom icon for an alias, it will use the generic document icon for that particular file. If this happens often, you can give PICTpocket more memory by selecting its icon and choosing “Get Info” from the File menu. Type a larger number into the “Preferred Size” box, then close the “PictPocket™ Info” window.
If PICTpocket tries to create an alias file with a name that is already in use, it will skip the file. This makes rescanning a disk very fast because most of the files will already have aliases.
The status bar indicates the percentage of the CD, disk or folder scanned.
Folder Organization Suggestions
When you first use PICTpocket to create aliases with custom icons for all pictures on your hard disk or CD-ROM, all aliases are placed in a single folder (i.e., Images).
After PICTpocket has completed its search, you can make separate image folders by creating a separate folder for individual clients, projects, publications, etc. Place a copy of PICTpocket into each new folder. Then, when you create new pictures, all you have to do is update the appropriate image folder by opening the image folder and dragging the folder with the new files to PICTpocket.
If you would like to rebuild your catalog from scratch, open the "Images" folder and simply do a Select All, shift click on PICTpocket to deselect it, and drag everything to the trash. You are now starting with a fresh catalog.
Image Formats Supported
PICTpocket reads PICT image files.
With the addition of Claris XTND, PICTpocket recognizes all image files for which you have XTND modules installed. When you register your copy of PICTpocket with Imspace Systems Corporation, you will receive the Claris XTND engine and several additional file format modules. ◊◊◊
